Top Picks for Fall Fun in New York City

Autumn in New York City is a glorious time, thanks to the arrival of fall foliage and the pleasant chill in the air. For those traveling to Manhattan during this lovely time, we’ve pulled together our favorite fall activities to enjoy.

A Tall Building In A City

Central Park Mall & Literary Walk

Some of life’s pleasures are the most simple — and free! Take a stroll through Central Park’s Mall and Literary Walk to see New York City's most beautiful fall foliage spread in a canopy above your head. We suggest entering the park between 66th and 67th Streets, and following the path until you hit The Mall.

Bike the City

Hop on a Citi Bike, our favorite way to take in the city. The closest station to us at Loews Regency New York is just two blocks away, at 59th Street and Park Avenue. We love riding the bike paths around Central Park, or if you want to go downtown, we recommend a ride across the Brooklyn Bridge (about a 10–15-minute ride).

The Met Cloisters

Head up to Washington Heights to enjoy the beautiful, tranquil Cloisters, a medieval monastery and a part of the Metropolitan Museum. Take in the gothic architecture at this castle-like oasis, and enjoy a nice respite from the fast pace of the city. There are also several lovely walking paths around the main attraction where you can take in the foliage as well as Hudson River views.

Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Balloon Inflation

On the eve of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, the balloon inflation draws just as big of a crowd as the main event. Head to the Upper West Side, entering at 73rd Street and Columbus Avenue, to catch a glimpse at the giant character floats as they're being inflated. You’ll stroll around the American Museum of Natural History to the tune of holiday music, where the floats are on display at night before their big debut the next day.
