Among the shining highlights of this year's collective is the gallery of Jonathan Carver Moore. Meet his featured artists, whose works speak volumes about identity, culture and the interconnectedness of humanity.
Adana Tillman is a textile and fiber artist who explores the journey of identity through figurative portraits. Tillman uses found fabrics to tell stories of the African Diaspora, exploring fashion and identity. Her mastery of quilting, embroidery and hand dyeing materials are all skills passed down from her mother. Adana works have been featured in the Institute of Contemporary Art San Francisco, EXPO CHICAGO, Fog Design+ Art, Prizm Art Fair and now at Untitled.
Aplerh-Doku Borlabi is a Ghanaian artist known for his figurative oil paintings and use of coconut sheath to create his subjects’ varying Black complexions. The coconut sheath’s multiple layers, longhairs and shades of brown whimsically renders skin texture and bone structure, while emulating the way natural light surfaces on skin. Borlabi’s works reside in prominent private collections around the world. Most recently his work was acquired by the de Young museum. Borlabi has been featured in Artnet, FAD Magazine, JUXTAPOZ, The San Francisco Chronicle and San Francisco Examiner.
Carrie Ann Plank is a San Francisco based artist working in installation, printmaking and painting. Her work focuses on layers of sophisticated geometry and examines the space of intersecting patterns to describe new structures. Plank’s art is included in collections at the Fine Art Archives of the Library of Congress, Fine Art Museums of San Francisco, Guanlan Print Art Museum in China, Museum Meermanno in The Hague, Netherlands and Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, Havana, Cuba.
Javiera Estrada and her work are influenced by memories of growing up in Mexico, examining the theme of interconnected consciousness. From incorporating female bodies as sculptural forms in organic communion with nature, to creating galactic primordial environments with inks, her work represents the “prima materia,” original essence of existence. Estrada has exhibited in London, Germany, Switzerland, China and Singapore. Her 2020 solo show in Las Vegas received a Certificate of Special Congressional Commendation for the Arts from the United States Congress.
