LA Summer Travel Guide

The summer season in LA is all about heading outdoors and enjoying the beautiful Southern California weather. Here, Loews Hollywood Hotel shares a few of their favorite local ways to soak up the sun and explore this vibrant city.

A View Of A City

Griffith Observatory

Griffith Observatory

You won't believe the views from this iconic LA landmark, Griffith Observatory. Overlooking all of Los Angeles, it provides a breath of fresh air as you hover high over the city below. Stroll through the exterior or this popular attraction for photo opportunities galore before heading inside for a break from the heat and an educational walk-through of the history and mysteries of the cosmos. For a small fee of $7 ($5 for students/seniors and $3 for children), visit the Samuel Oschin Planetarium for an incredible visual experience and to enjoy a quick rest from all the walking.

Runyon Canyon Views

Runyon Canyon

If you're itching to get out and hike like the locals do, Runyon Canyon is the place to be. Known for it's breathtaking views of Los Angeles and high-profile exercising spot of the stars, this fantastic trail is a quick walk from Loews Hollywood Hotel. Be sure to prepare for this venture, especially during the summer months. Sunscreen, a hat, an insulated bottle of water, and good walking shoes are a must to ensure you're properly equipped for this often steep hike. But trust me, the views are well worth the sweat!

The Grove Trolley

The Grove

With school out and a few extra hours to spend with the kids this summer, you'll all be sure to enjoy a visit to one of our most popular and well-known local outdoor shopping centers, The Grove. Grab an Uber to avoid the hassle of finding a place to park and head out for a warm summer day filled with shopping, eating, and perhaps a trolley ride. Pick up a stylish LA souvenir from one of the many high-end stores that line this beautiful outdoor mall before stopping in for a sweet (and oh so Insta-worthy) treat from Sprinkles Cupcakes, Ladurée, or Dominique Ansel Bakery... home of the original Cronut.

The Original Farmers Market

The Original Farmers Market

While at The Grove, head next door to experience The Original Farmers Market. Stroll the open-air market like a local while you enjoy some of LA's best produce, meats, and cheeses. Stop for a quick bite to eat in the food court (there are options to please anyone in your family) or pick up some local snacks to go (perfect for the plane ride back or a special someone back home). This shaded area is a great way to take a break from the sun while still getting that outdoor feeling LA is known for.

City Walk Hollywood

Universal CityWalk

When the sun goes down, take in the nightlife in the vibrant outdoor environment at Universal CityWalk® Hollywood. The energy is electric as the sun finally sets and the neon comes alive in this entertainment district located just outside of Universal Studios Hollywood™. The kids will love browsing through some of the most exciting and unique retail shops while adults can sit back and savor a delicious meal after a long day of sightseeing. Stop by the Universal Cinema or stumble across live entertainment at Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville or Hard Rock Cafe. With three levels of dining and shopping options, CityWalk offers hours of summertime fun for the whole family.
