BBQ & Baseball in the Midwest
Best BBQ City? You decide!
Where there is baseball, there is BBQ. Loews Hotels & Co is celebrating America’s favorite pastime with one of America’s favorite styles of cuisine with a BBQ & Baseball Showdown for two Missouri Rivals – St. Louis Cardinals and the Kansas City Royals this summer.
The showdown officially begins in the Heart of America when the Royals play the Cardinals on Saturday, August 12. The culinary teams at Live! by Loews- St. Louis and Loews Kansas City Hotel will host a post-game BBQ battle. The event, which benefits DonorsChoose.org, will feature a selection of St. Louis and Kansas City BBQ specialties, with salads desserts, and more. The executive chefs from each city will go head-to-head making all of their destination’s favorite BBQ, to see who comes out on top. Guests are invited to taste the flavors of each city and later cheer on their favorite team from the hotel or stadium.
Attendees will vote for their favorite city style and the winner will win a two-night stay at the away team’s hotel with parking and breakfast. Tickets for the event will be available via Resy.
For those who can’t make it to Kansas City, the executive chefs have rounded up their favorite spots to enjoy a roast in their hometown.
St. Louis:
Bogart’s Smokehouse: Bogarts Smokehouse opened in 2011 with a mission to create a great-tasting, high-quality BBQ. Their menu includes smoked tri-tip sirloin, pastrami, burnt ends, and apricot glazed ribs. When it’s gone, it’s gone.
Salt + Smoke: The team at Salt + Smoke has been passionate about treating meat right for years, serving St. Louis-style BBQ in Ballpark Village.
Clark & Bourbon: Located in Live! by Loews- St. Louis, this steakhouse features an exposed kitchen serving high-end cuts of meat, a signature bacon slab, smoked wings and a full library of whiskeys and bourbons in The Whiskey Room.
Kansas City:
Joe’s Kansas City BBQ: Regarded by some as one of the best in the country, the restaurant’s original spot, a former gas station, is a short drive from the hotel and holds a frequent spot on many top 10 lists. In fact, Anthony Bourdain named it “One of the top 13 places to eat before you die.” Based in Kansas City, Missouri, we recommend ordering the “Z Man Sandwich” your way.
Slaps BBQ: The 2nd place recipient to Destination America’s BBQ Pitmasters TV show, Slaps, which stands for “Squeal Like A Pig.” The restaurant, which opened in 2014, has a huge following and BBQ fans will appreciate the incredible menu, quality, and all-around good people who run this BBQ joint. If you go, we recommend the Three Little Pigs which is two ribs, pulled pork, and jalapeno cheddar sausage. It’s worth crossing the border to Kansas City, Kansas for this spot that stays open until the food runs out.
The Stilwell: We can’t mention BBQ without mentioning our very own, The Stilwell, conveniently located in the lobby of Loews Kansas City Hotel. For those looking for their KC BBQ fix, get the Stilwell BBQ platter with pulled pork, a smoked chicken thigh, and burnt ends with house mild & spicy BBQ sauce.
