Loews Regency New York Toasts With A Diamond-Inspired Cocktail

By Patricia Canole

Loews Regency New York Hotel has symbolized Park Avenue hospitality. To this day, it remains one of New York’s most iconic hotels and is celebrating 60 years. To mark this Diamond Jubilee, The Regency Bar & Grill is celebrating with its own diamond-inspired cocktail.

Loews Regency New York Hotel opened on March 1, 1963, as The Summit and soon became an instant success for New York’s society set. Designed by Morris Lapidus, the ultra-modern hotel was ahead of its time with hi-tech innovations like bathroom telephones, combination bar/refrigerators, and stereo televisions. The hotel soon became the Park Avenue address of the international set who loved jetting off to far away locations. The year was 1975, and the famous Power Breakfast was introduced at the Loews Regency New York Hotel. At the time, during the New York City fiscal crisis, Loews Corporation Co-Chairman and Co-CEO Bob Tisch began inviting leaders from the public and private sectors to the restaurant to discuss ways to help the city recover.

The Power Breakfast forever changed how business was conducted, ending the “three martini lunch” era in favor of morning meetings that could take place before the official workday began. Over the years, the Power Breakfast has become a signature of the hotel, and it still stands as one of the most iconic dining experiences in Manhattan, offering local New Yorkers and hotel guests the perfect opportunity for people-watching and dining with some of the most influential professionals in New York City. After 50 years, the Loews Regency New York Hotel closed its doors to undergo a comprehensive $100 million renovation. Reopened a year later in 2014, the re-imagined hotel features luxurious guest rooms with suites. With this continued success and a look to the future, the Diamond Jubilee Cocktail was created and is exclusively available at the Regency Bar & Grill.

The cocktail is a blend of Patron El Alto Tequila Reposado, Aperol, and Lillet Blanc. It’s a perfect way to celebrate and enjoy the smoothness of tequila, it makes for a sophisticated and refined taste. This Instagram-worthy cocktail is chilled with a diamond stone-shaped ice cube top, paired with Champagne, and dusted with gold flakes. There is no better way to experience the Upper East Side than with this drink at The Regency Bar & Grill. Now 60 years since its original debut, the hotel is better than ever.
